Hello, I'm Mel
photographer
Being both a mum and a rider, I’ve come to understand the profound, unspoken bond between a human and a horse—one built on trust, patience, and quiet understanding. Horses don’t just carry us across landscapes; they carry us through life’s ups and downs, offering solace on the days when words fall short. There’s something deeply healing about the rhythmic sound of hooves on the ground, the gentle nuzzle of a muzzle, and the way their presence seems to calm even the most restless thoughts. Through my lens, I capture not just the beauty of these magnificent animals, but the moments that speak to their role in mental health—where a simple ride can feel like a conversation, where their steady presence reminds us to breathe, and where the bond between a mother, her horse, and her camera becomes a story worth telling.
My approach

My approach to capturing these moments is all about blending into the scene—becoming a quiet observer rather than an obvious presence. I don’t just take photos; I step into the rhythm of the moment, allowing the connection between horse and rider to unfold naturally.
I work with an intuitive, unobtrusive style, where you may not even realise I'm there—just another presence in the background, waiting for the perfect instant when emotions surface organically. Whether it's a fleeting glance, the gentle touch of a hand against a muzzle, or the peaceful solitude of a ride, I immerse myself in the energy of the bond rather than directing it.
Horses sense when we're fully present, and that’s where the magic happens—when the camera isn’t interrupting, but instead becoming a silent storyteller. Every image should feel like an extension of that moment, not just a snapshot of it.
